The Venn Design team recently worked with administrators at Woodberry Forest School, a top-ranked private high school for boys in grades nine through twelve, to furnish their new 1968 Multicultural Center with a custom collection of Venn Design Sitting Cushions. Our team designed twenty movable floor seats for the special space, made with Condensed Black Pendleton wool, in time for the center’s opening celebration on October 9th, 2021.

The debut of the new multicultural center at Woodberry Forest School’s 1,200-acre campus in Virginia is part of the school’s "Windows and Mirrors" initiative, an idea inspired by this TED Talk by Grace Lin.

“The '68 Center is a space dedicated to creating a ‘mirror’ for multicultural students at our school,” said Rev. Tyler Montgomery, Woodberry Forest School Chaplain. “It’s a space where they are welcomed and affirmed as a part of the community.”

As a place for informal gatherings, movie nights, and student conversations called "fish bowls,"  school administrators set out to design an environment that was open, flexible, and warm.

“We decided to have movable furniture and a comfortable carpet to allow students to sit, lie, and/or stand comfortably,” Rev. Montgomery said. “Venn Design's sitting cushions caught our eye, particularly for their vibrant colors and patterns, and also for their size and quality construction.”

After ordering some "demo” sitting cushions to test out, the Woodberry Forest School Team was impressed with the quality and made the choice to move forward with an order of twenty.

“The flexible, alternative seating that encourages movement is perfect for the space,” Rev. Montgomery said.
